The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              STEINAMS BEACH – Didn’t really have much chance in that second start back from too far back. Trust me, he’s better than that! This is a very nice spot to take the gloves off and showcase more speed. He’s ready for it. Watch out!

2              GAMBLIN MO – Some of the decisions on these Cullipher Comebackers are tough! Most of them need a start. But maybe not Mo. His qualifier was strong. This is a very competitive bunch. He’s got a good post. And A Mac!

3              LINNYCALLEDFRANKIE – I think everybody saw him kind of get boxed in and stuffed last week. So, don’t expect a huge price. Most of those horses get overbet. But, Linny sure looks like he enjoys the mile track. Let’s see more.

4              CALIBER – I actually think he raced better last time. The tough trip did him in, but he was good. The barn had everything rolling last week, so let’s see if that continues this weekend. Will be a big price again. Usable?

5              MULLINAX – One thing’s for sure, he’s got some serious speed when asked. He hasn’t been lucky enough to win one of these yet, but he will probably get his day. Mark Mac gets along with him, but not here yet. Another send coming?

6              UCANTTOUCHTHIS – I really don’t know what to make of this guy yet. Some mixed efforts lately, but yes, he was very good to be second to One Eight Hundred last week. I can’t deny that. Still an outer post. Does he have to leave?

7              METALLICA – Barn has sent a few up from home base over past few weekends since Dover closed. So far, most of them have looked overmatched. That’s the case here too!

Race 2

1              ZLATAN – The outer post and slowish start never really gave him a chance in that last one. Okay. This should be better! This field may not be as tough, and the rail gives pilot more options. Should be a lot closer come crunch time.

2              NO DRAMA PLEASE – Gets additional class relief and this is probably a now-or-never kind of spot for him. Will have to deal with a revved-up Memo, but he’s got a touch more back class. I’m on board IF the price is better or fair.

3              VIC’S WINNER – I guess the bottom line is when was the last time he won? I don’t know. He’s been bouncing up and down the class ladder, with some varied success. He has raced back into shape. Overdue to get a little luckier. DD on.

4              RONNIE GOLDSTEIN – After that big hint that he was ready to return to form, Ronnie came back with a slight clunker two weeks ago. Extra week off. I really don’t know what to expect tonight. But, I will be watching closely.

5              MEMO – Was the “hot horse” last week, and it just didn’t work out with that trip, getting stuffed in. Most times, those horses get overbet in the follow-up. Can he win? Of course. But, what will he pay? Trying pay dividends for new barn.

6              BIG RICH – He’s a pretty tough call right now too! After that perfect trip win, he was a total non-factor at this level last week. Should we expect more? I don’t know. I’m leaning towards no. I need to see more now.

7              SKYWAY KON MAN – I’ve been trying to guess right on the Kon Man forever. Once in a blue moon, I get it right. For tonight’s wagering purposes, I’m going to prefer some inside rivals. Can he beat me? Of course. That would be normal.

8              SOUTHWIND FROST – Kind of just went around there in first start back over the strip. Moves from pole to post eight, so that’s not good. He looks like a longshot to me again.

9              PRIMO PADRE – Up from Florida. Qualified at Pocono, so I’m a little surprised to see him in the box here. Plus, a post nine draw. Good luck with that. Not ready.
