The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              DOC SEMALU – Gets some much-needed post relief and does go to the gate for the potent trainer/driver combo. BUT, also sports a 1-16 record this year. Yes, you can get a price, but the horse will need a big wakeup call to win.

2              LYDIAS LIBERTY – She exceeded my expectations upon arrival with a very good rally. So, that’s a good first start for new barn. Most times, horses improve after a start here. So, if that happens, she’s dangerous. At a price too!

3              BRONSONS DELIGHT – I guess I’m just tired of chasing this guy, so he will probably beat me tonight. Too many excuses. Too many bad posts. Too many tough trips. I’ve had enough. Good luck if you fancy.

4              MV OK PALACIO BR – Lauren Harmon ships in from Michigan for the drive, to keep it all in the family! Dave G just stayed out of trouble in the flow last week and pounced on them willingly. That’s this horse’s game. He’s a closer!

5              TAKEITTOTHEFACE – Gets the important drop from GSY 2 to GSY 1. We’ve seen that work before. I haven’t had much luck guessing on the Face, so I will wish you the same if you think he can upset these. With right trip, maybe he can.

6              ROCK TO GLORY – I’ve kind of had enough of chasing him lately too! Yes, he needs several things to go his way to have a good chance, and they’re just not happening. If he beats me, he beats me. So be it.

7              BYTHEWAY HANOVER – For a moment, it looked like she was a winner with that big move coming off the turn. She was unable to sustain it, but it was still a nice effort. She’s pretty hard to gauge, but has a chance again in here.

8              DESERONTO – Dakota took a shot and sent the family horse upon arrival and the 10YO came up a little short in the stamina department. Sometimes, it takes a start or two to get those mile track legs. Tougher post tonight, however.

9              FERDINAND A – Jim S put him in another great spot last week, but #10 just kept on going! So, the rematch is on and they have the same two lousy posts. We know the drill here! They’re both leaving, and let’s see what happens.

10           DREAM OUT LOUD N – The game old 15YO provided Ms. Sowers with her first Big M win. I’m sure the Judge was happy to see that. He hops back in the bike again for another 10-hole start. It will not be easy, but horse is super sharp.

Race 2

1              EASY RIDER – Promising son of Walner here for Team Orange Crush. They had a nice babies day on Monday this week at Gaitway, so when you’re hot, you’re hot! Nice effort over at Pocono. Just getting good now. Deserves respect here.

2              MAJESTIC J – Had the misfortune of running into an absolute bearcat in #8 last time, so don’t hold that against him. Faces that same foe, but with a post edge tonight. Can he turn the tables? Maybe. But, will have to deal with #3,6 too!

3              SENNA – They opted to send this guy north for the Goodtimes try and it just didn’t work out. Not every horse gets over that surface right away. Back on the truck home. Back into a much softer spot. I wouldn’t talk you off.

4              JBN – Ended up re-qualifying down at Magical Acres after those miscues. Was pretty good prior to that. So, I guess I’ll take a good, long look at him on the track first. This is a pretty strong bunch for the NW2 level. Needs best.

5              ABRUZZO – They can’t all be favored in a race like this, so let’s tab him as a price. This is a big step up.

6              FRANK THE ELDER – Pretty nice effort by Jack P to perfectly rate that pace last week and he lasted by an eyelash. It was first go on Lasix too! Obviously, it helped. Horse has come back strong so far this year. Gets tested again. YG on.

7              STAMPED BY LINDY – Yes, he’s got speed, but does he have mile track stamina? That is the question. And, I don’t have the answer yet. Kind of got lost for no reason last time at end of mile. I need to see more, please.

8              FINN PALEMA – Provided me with a rare price-play winner two weeks ago, and boy was he good!! I loved what I saw in the Pocono replay, and obviously, he impressed me again here. Perfect horse for big track. The one to fear.
