The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              HALLIAMA – Team Chartrand have him pretty good right now, so I’m sure they weren’t happy with the cancel last Friday. But, extra week off for the horse won’t hurt. As long as he stays trotting, he can repeat. Good post for him.

2              LEDGES – Looks like she ended her 3YO season on a bit of a sour note with those breaks. Okay. Hopefully, she matures a little and heads to the gate for Harry L. Looked like she needed that qualifier. Will she need one more? Maybe.

3              LIONHEAD – Corey did a nice job of ground-saving and rallying with the Lion two weeks ago. Horse raced a little better than I expected, so barn brings him right back here. I don’t think he’ll be 18-1 again. Needs similar trip.

4              MARVELOUSTRIX – Got rolling a little too late to do any major damage last time. Plus, Halli got the jump anyway. IF the race sets up right, either of them can win. It’s all about trip. And timing! This post is good for her too!

5              CLASSIC VENTURE – He is clearly the key to the race! Why? Because of his speed. With the major players being stone closers, it gives T Mac the chance to try and steal one. Horse has been very good here. Let’s see if he gets lucky.

6              PEACEFUL MISSION NO – Trond drove very aggressively in that Big M debut for this one two weeks ago. And, the mare came up a tad short late. Hey! It happens. First starts here require a lot of stamina. Let’s see if more in the tank.

7              TRENTS A LOCK – Has made his way north from Florida. Had a disastrous first go up at Monti, so quickly finding way to mile track. Faced the same horse in qualifier as #2 and neither one got close. Will he need one here? Good question.

8              GROSETTO AS – Moves from pole to post eight, so that’s never good. But, that was a nice confidence builder over at Pocono. Unfortunately, I just don’t see the same kind of trip tonight. He’s not exactly loaded with early zip.

Race 2

1              PAPPY ROCKS – Definitely one of the possibilities, in a pretty tough race to handicap. Barn’s has done well with most of its claims, so we should probably expect an improved effort over last one. Gets the rail to stick close. Let’s see more.

2              FLASH A SMILE – Clearly outracing her odds lately, due to good trips and drives from Jake. Will probably have to be very patient again, the way this one appears to set up. Continued improvement means continued checks!

3              LITTLE SANDY TOES – Barn’s got two in, and they both end up in the same race! Never ideal, but oh well! Poor Sandy gets some much-needed post relief, and Yannick back. That helps a lot! You know we’re going to see speed tonight.

4              DOUBLEOFFTHEWALL – She’s been off since October. Her second qualifier was a touch better than the first, but it tells me she’s going to need a race or two before we see best. I am always willing to wait.

5              BE BEST – Here’s another top contender again. (If Jess picks her!) Hasn’t had a whole lot of luck lately, and that’s due to change. Barn is also doing well. Mark Mac will look this bunch over and know he has to send. Expect the blast.

6              I WILL DO IT – Barn’s other starter is in a tough spot tonight. Do they blast and potentially soften up the barnmate? Also likely to face the potential speed of #6. So, I’m not sure what to expect. But, Scotty Z will figure it out. Always does.

7              LOVIN MISS DAISY N – Recent Ohio invader had a race over the track. Keep in mind that this barn has hit us with a few “surprises” so far. But, I do hate this post and spot. I’m going to try and wait one more week for better spot.
