The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper — Early Double Analysis — May 7, 2022

Race 1

1              DA DELIGHTFUL – No, I don’t really know why he was 1-2 over at Pocono last week, but he had miserable trip and no chance. So, Team Silva quickly brings him back here. Good move! Gets the rail. Drops down. Tetrick takes over.

2              DE LOS CIELOS DEO – He actually raced pretty well last week, from a tough spot too! Leon David was just vicious that night. This is a nice post. He plots for a stalking trip. The right journey gives him chance to get the job done.

3              TOOKADIVEOFFDIPPER – Hiked up to this level last time and was very aggressive. It didn’t work out when he got a little tired late. No worries. He’s got enough speed to put the pressure on #1 early. Might end up with great trip.

4              GRAND CAYMAN – Scotty Z put a perfect steer on this fella last week to pay off at the lower level. This is the hike up, and he’s facing many dropdowns. That is not often a recipe for success. Let’s see if they get lucky again. Tough call.

5              CASUAL COOL – Didn’t have the same kind of luck last week. Plus, the price was a lot lower. He is a one-run closer, and will just have to hope they mix it up early. Anything is possible. It’s supposed to be rainy. You never know.

6              BRACKEN STORM A – Noel D gave him a little time off after a couple of clunkers. That usually helps. But, he’s on the outside looking in tonight, and I just want to watch one first. I’m not ready to commit just yet.

7              STONE HANOVER – Hard to believe he was just about 60-1 in his comebacker. Just wasn’t ready for that type of effort yet. Normally, this would be nice drop, but maybe not tonight. I will take a pass and watch for later on.

8              B STONEY – Where’s he going from post eight here? I know he has blasted, and raced well against this type before, but I just don’t see it for tonight.

Race 2

1              KAITLYN N – She was okay last week. For whatever reason, #8 just came up with a giant mile and nobody was catching her. Did outfinish my pick #2, so that showed she’s still sharp. Gets rail. Can protect and stalk in a good spot. Loses YG.

2              STELLENBOSCH – Absolutely loved that spot for her last week and she was no match. I guess I’m off bandwagon.

3              RABLE – Talk about a money burner lately! Been killing those folks down at Philly for a few weeks. Tries the change of venue tonight, and she just doesn’t have great history here yet either. Should be medium price, IF you want try again.

4              BEACH MOMENT – Bouncing up and down the class ladder between the tracks. Speed looks like her game, so expect her to get involved early. Can she finish it off? That’s a good question and I don’t have the answer yet. YG’s choice ov 1.

5              UPTOWN LADY N – We all know her story. She’s a one-trick pony, from just off the pace. This race has the potential to see a little action in it. I don’t remember is she’s good on an off track, but we will have that tonight. Tough call.

6              WOODMERE HARRIET – Seeking the proper level for her, and I’m not so sure this is it. At least it’s a slight drop. Figures to be coming from off the pace too! Can she outhoof #5? I’m not so sure about that either.

7              FILLY – I loved her last effort! Joe was very patient with her and she finished up strongly. The line in program doesn’t really do it justice. So, Team B have her in great shape. But, this is a real tough spot, AND a bad post. Needs luck.

8              LAURIE LEE – No, I don’t know where that mile came from last week, but it was dazzling. Dex was just feeling it that night and everything worked. Will she be that good again from post eight? Your guess is as good as mine.

9              IDEATION HANOVER – I was just about ready to hop back onto her bandwagon until she drew post nine for tonight. Ouch! It hurts. Dave will try to put her in play again, but she’s going to need a trip too! Demand fair price if you fancy.
