BROWER IN THE BIKE – JULY 2

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper — Early Double Analysis — July 2, 2022

Race 1

1             POMPEO HANOVER – Barn’s got two in and this one appears to have the better chance. Had the ‘ol post 10 tour of the track in Big M debut. Should benefit from that. Still has something to prove in class like this. Must step it up.

2             JK MIKI MANTLE – Yes, we can see the pedigree, but this Miki hasn’t quite lived up to that reputation just yet. Eight starts so far, flirting with lower level stakes company. Needs some confidence. Is this the spot? Maybe. A chance.

3             CAPTAINGIDDYUPNGO – Has a shot in a pretty wide-open race. He’s paced in 50 and change last few, and not too many of these can say that. So, he should have a slight edge. Good post. Just needs bit more speed.

4             THE CLAW – Aimed a bit high in his Big M debut. Was overmatched in there. This is more like it, but I will keep him on the longshot list until I see more. I will be watching.

5             HURRIKANE JONNYBOY – Showed solid potential when he showed up here last year. They put him away to mature a little. Probably good idea. Not sure why the gap between May and June. Maybe he got sick? Back with Lasix. Ready?

6             BLOODHOUND – A Bloodhound won Westminster this year for first time ever, so this could be a hunch play. You’ll get a good price if you fancy that. Did pace around Gaitway in 52. Might be fast enough for her. I guess we’ll find out.

7             ALL ABOUT THE HUNT – Nice maintenance start here, between NY stakes engagements. Not a bad start to career with that NYSS win for Ms. Crawford and the General. They’ve been patient, and are being rewarded so far.

8             FROZEN HANOVER – Invades from Canada with some pretty good-looking lines. Got checks in last several starts, including a good win. So, this is a drop, but also a bad post. Will need every bit of that speed he showed in Cup.

9             HECANDANCENCRUISE – Also aimed a bit high in the first go here. But, guess what? This doesn’t look all that easier, and the post is terrible again. I guess I’d rate him a longshot from way out here.

10           UNSUNG HERO – He also put on quite a show here last year. Back now, but in brutal spot. May need this one. But, I must note that Dave Miller chose him over #7. Interesting.

Race 2

1             COWBOY CRUSHN – Just when you thought he might be headed in the right direction, another break last time. Pass.

2             PINK COCO CHANEL – She got a little fumbly-gaited at the end last week and jumped. Not good. That’s two times in last three. So, I don’t know what to tell you. She’s never a big price. Risky at best. Maybe not as good as #6 anyway.

3             HL MAMMOTH – Still not quite ready for a test like this. A big longshot again and I will watch.

4             MUSCLE HALL – Added Lasix for the Philly try and battled it out on the lead. Gave it up at the very end, but it was a quality try. Might be just a tad better in “follow mode.” Has to prove it on the big track anyway. Let’s see it.

5             YOU’RE DEAD TO ME – No match for #6 when they last met. Shows the scratch since, and that always worries me. I do like the midpack post, but would probably need to see a better one before I could endorse.

6             MONKEY QUEEN – Made up some nice ground to capture her pari-mutuel debut. Not bad! That’s not easy to do. Barn’s been on a good roll to start the stakes season. Gets the “free pass” in this class again. Very much one to beat.

7             PERFECT DESTINY – Definitely looking like a work in progress. I didn’t like that qualifier. I will take a pass for now.

8             ELEGANT CHARM – She might be the key to the race. Or, at least the early pace potential. Loses that inside post help and it makes a big difference. Andy will have to take a shot and leave a little. Just to get position. She has talent.

9             HL BALOU – Barn’s other starter also looks like a longshot. Especially from this post. Not tonight, folks.

10           ROMANTIC TILE S – Had a couple of starts over at Pocono. But, I can’t really say I like the look of those last quarters. To do well here, you need to finish. She needs to learn that. And post 10 never helps the problem.
