The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              BYTHEWAY HANOVER – Another complete enigma of a horse in this GSY series. How can you possibly handicap him? Went from absolutely empty to awesome and swept the field. So, what do we do with him tonight? I have no idea.

2              CAPTAIN’S REIGN – He took a ton of betting action last week and never really got involved. Gets a much better inside post and expect Dakota to do things differently. He will put the Cap in play tonight. Can upset these with right trip. Trainer: Draws back inside this week. Should be a major contender here. Been ultra-consistent as always. Was in a bad spot last week with a slow second quarter. Paced hard all the way through the wire.

3              CASINO BAGS ANSO – John Ahle put an absolutely perfect drive on this fella last week, and they got the money with one, well-timed surge. That showed me something. For him, they fortunately, didn’t get bumped up to GSY 2. JA to #4.

4              ROCKABILLY CHARM – Mr. Ahle had a tough choice in here and you see which way he went. The drop from GSY 2 to GSY 1 has been a big angle in the series. One of the few we can count on. Billy keeps trying hard. Ahle’s choice ov 3.

5              ROCK TO GLORY – Did have some things go his way to the win. Did not have things go his way last week. So, he’s another tough one to try and handicap. It’s the one-way style. Sometimes, the closers win. Sometime, speed wins.

6              MV OK PALACIO BR – Like #5, he can only perform one way. With the likes of #9,10 in here, there should be some action up front. That would help the closers. Maybe we should just box them up? Another new driver for MV.

7              CECIL CASANOVA – Is Cecil tailing off? We can make the argument yes. I’m not really in love with this post. He can leave, but often doesn’t. I don’t see him outkicking the other closers in here. So, I am off the bandwagon for now.

8              DOC SEMALU – Not a lot going right for this horse right now, so let’s keep him on the longshot list. Pass.

9              FERDINAND A – Another superb try from this game gelding. And Jim S always seems to put him in play properly. No Jim S tonight, but I still feel he is 100% leaving the gate here and IF #10 doesn’t, that helps his cause a lot. Nice price.

10           DREAM OUT LOUD N – The Judge gave the Dream a race from off the pace last week, and that’s okay! You can’t just keep sending them every week. But, he gets stuck with another 10-hole here. And #9 is blasting. Very interesting.

Race 2

1 DRINKIN AGAIN – Lots of dropdowns in here and this is one of them. How did the Freehold invaders do last night? Might give us a little gauge. With The Hold now closed for the summer, it will be tough to adapt to mile track speed.

2              TULHURSTSANTANNA A – Showed up here in a difficult GSY 2 last time and still turned in a clunker at underlay odds. Why was he 3-1? I have no idea. So, this is almost like a double-drop to me. He still has to wake up, show more.

3              SPOILERONTHEBEACH – Fourth straight class drop here, folks! Eventually, he’s going to wake back up too! The problem is trying to guess when. This is better post. Will need a smooth journey for that one move, but maybe?

4              SOHO CHELSEA A – I’ll keep him on the longshot list. Was a little flat in that comebacker to Club Med. I know he’s capable, when they get him sharp, but I usually have to see it first.

5              WHAT’S YOUR BEEF – Again, another Freehold shipper. Some might make it. Most won’t. You be the judge.

6              PADUKA N – The Duke has fully worked his way down the class ladder for his new barn. We know he’s faced, AND beaten much better than this in the past. The key is not getting used too hard early. Let’s see some speed tonight.

7              GLOBALDOMINATION – Have to love this spot for him again. Remember, he was chasing a 1-9 winner last week, and fought hard all the way. My only knocks are the post, and 1-16 record this year. Both complicate matters. DM off, too!

8              LUCID DREAMS – I haven’t guessed right on this barn in the entirety of 2022, so I should probably stop right there. New acquisition here and they have exhibited some big wakeup calls. Are we about to see another one?
