The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              ULTIMAROCA – Really doing good work for the Burke Brigade this season. Can’t argue with that. And it seems he can negotiate any size track too! That helps. Enters this mini-series with a “partner” who might be a bit better? We’ll see.

2              BLLACK HOLE – Off the layoff here and I guess this is a good starting point back. He’s not ready to win yet, though.

3              DRAGON SAID – Seeks fourth straight. Pocono, Philly, Yonkers, here, it just doesn’t matter. He races well everywhere. Somehow, some way, he “squeezes” into this series by his Trackmaster rating. Definitely the horse to beat.

4              HARAMBE DEO – We’ve seen him do a lot of damage here over the year. He now races for Delaware-based trainer, and Canadian owner. Interesting combo. On the rise here, with several confidence boosters. Is he this good again?

5              LEON DAVID – Has been kind of mired at this higher level for a while now. He’s managed to pick up some checks, due to conservative handling. It will probably be the same in here.

6              ST LADS BEAT IT – That one try here didn’t really show us much. So, I really don’t know what to expect tonight. Have to keep him on the medium longshot list against a good field like this. Not sure he’s up to the task.

7              SOUTHWIND GENDRY – Sears had to pick between the stablemates and opted here over #1. I suspected that. This is a very, very good horse. Only two starts so far this year. This is great chance to get some confidence going. One to fear.

8              HAIL CHRISTIAN N – I don’t really like this spot for him, in an outside post. To me, he seems to be totally at mercy of pace and trip and I just don’t see it working out. If he proves me wrong, so be it.

Race 2

1              BNGS EXPRESS – Seemed to round back into somewhat better form down at Philly, so it’s a little surprising to see him back here. Tyler gets back in the bike tonight and he’s about due for a win. Gets the rail. Wide open race too! 0-19.

2              CLIFFHANGER – He’s just 1-18 this year, but that will be a common these amongst these. Somebody has to step up and win! I just don’t know if this is the right level for him. Will need a trip, AND some luck to get home on top.

3              JUST WAVE GOODBYE – Very, very few Monti shippers seem to do well here. I understand they’re taking a shot, and horse has somewhat rounded into better form. But, this is a big ask. Let’s see if he’s good enough.

4              COLD DECKED – Hasn’t had a whole lot of luck here yet. Transitions out of the GSY to this Trackmaster level. Is this the right spot? I’m not really sure. Your call, folks?

5              SUNSHINE’S FINEST – This HAS to be the right spot for this poor fella. He’s had very little luck here, between bad posts and tough trips. Long overdue to have something go right. That’s Mark Mac’s job tonight! Get it done!

6              BELL FAMILY – I guess the “word was out” last time at Philly? Why was he even money? I have NO idea. So, with that said, let’s hope he brings a better effort here. Not likely to be such a short price again. Unless I’m missing something.

7              LANAS DESIRE – Bunch of thirds at the Hold. A just fair race at Philly. You need more than that to win here.

8              SETTLEMOIR – I’ll keep him on the longshot list, with a switch back to a bad post. Not likely to beat these.

9              A B COLLINS – Might be the key to the race! Or, at least the early pace battle. He gets slammed with second straight bad post, but does have speed. Wasn’t Tyler M’s choice, but I expected that. Still expect a send from the gate.
