The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper — Early Double Analysis — November 6, 2021

Race 1

1              CASTLE HOUSE – Seeks a little revenge on the Coach for that last loss down at Philly. Overall, it appears he’s come back much better for Per after that month off. I like the speed. Plots for a nice, up-close trip. Just needs to find a kick.

2              FAMOUS FATHER – Looks like the longshot in here, since he hasn’t offered a whole lot lately. I’ll just pass for now.

3              STIFF DRINK – The Drink stayed trotting last time, but also failed to deliver any sort of winning kick. Still, it was a step in the right direction for Team Orange Crush. Let’s see if he takes another forward move. Maybe some speed?

4              FAST AS THE WIND – That was an incredible try in the Breeders Crown! Especially from post 10. Has definitely rounded into top form quite nicely for the Alagna Armada. The one to beat, if he can get close to the Coach at end.

5              PINEWOOD HANOVER – His last Kindergarten try was a good one! Against Robertsin. The Philly tries were one good, one bad. So, I don’t fully know where he’s at. Drew midpack, so that creates options. How much speed does he have?

6              SOUTHWIND CAINE – Just 1-9 so far, like #5. He’s been okay, but not great. Seems like a “follower,” not a leader. If he doesn’t leave a little, will get away last. Can’t say that I like his chances of sweeping them all.

7              COACH K HANOVER – How good is he? Good question. Obviously, the barn is on quite a roll right now! The Coach crushed at both PA tracks, so now he gets the big test back on big track. Hopefully, over those breaking problems.

Race 2

1              FIND HAPPINESS – Yes, that’s seven second-place finishes in her young career so far. Obviously, the ability is there, IF we can get her to learn how to win. She’s got some controlling speed from the inside post. Will blast and protect.

2              FLIP THE SCRIPT – Nothing wrong with the way she’s going so far. That last Kindergarten try here was from outside post, so just toss that. Every other start a quality one. Might be sitting and stalking in a very good spot. T Mac to #1.

3              TREACHEROUS DRAGON – Raced her eyeballs out in the Crown final. Did excellent work in the series back in September. She’s a top-quality filly! Will Timmy let her grind again? Or will we see more speed in short field?

4              HAMPTONS BABE – She’s been okay so far. Should benefit from a little break over past month. I would like to see a bit more before I could endorse, but you never know when these young horses have the light bulb on. Maybe.

5              ALWAYS GONNA B YOU – Did awfully good work out in Indiana. Homebred finds herself in Jersey now, in Camp Holloway. I like the versatility she’s shown. Anxious to see if she’s in same league with the Dragon. Good spot.

6              COUNTERPARTY RISK – The last time she tried these Kindergarten foes, she was big longshot and no real match. Dropped into those state-bred races and that was a good idea! Gained confidence. Maybe she fits now?
