The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              UNDERTAKER – Raced a little better for his new barn last week. Still needs to ramp things up a little more, but anything can happen with these claimers. Gets another inner post, which should keep him close. Trainer: Would have to watch the race to see how much better he was than the line shows. Should be in play this week.

2              GAME OF CHANGE – Tough to get really excited about his form right now. I will just take a pass again.

3              OUR THIRD ROCK – Hit the ticket at 57-1 last time, so that’s not bad. I’ll keep him on the medium longshot list for now, wondering if it was a fluke or not? Will need the right kind of trip, but strange things happen in these races.

4              RAPTORS FLIGHT N – Battled a little too hard last time and paid the price late. Fires right back, as one of two for the barn. Will need an easier trip, but that can happen too! This is better start slot for him. But, T Mac did opt for Trip.

5              SO TAKE THAT – We pretty much know his game. He’s best as a one-move pony, from just off the pace. The midpack post is perfect. And, if they mix it up early, watch out for him late. Not totally out of this, even at this level.

6              WINDSONG JACK – We all know his game too! It’s speed! But, there’s plenty of that in there. Barn saw fit to reclaim Jack and that is always a very positive angle. Sears will take a turn in the sulky seat and try to get him best trip possible.

7              COOL BLUES MAN – Things set up very nicely for him last week and he blew by the field. Team Bongiorno stepped in to take the 7YO. But, he gets entered for bigger price, so that means outside post. Still needs the right setup.

8              MINDTRIP – As usual, the Trip is the key to the race. Especially from another outside post. Got a couple weeks off, which he probably needed. Will he fire back razor sharp? That is a good question. I don’t have the answer. Trainer: He’s coming off a much-deserved break. They (#5) both are.

Race 2

1              SONNY WEAVER N – The Cullipher Crew have two in, and they’re both technically dropping. So, they both have a chance. He listed Tetrick on both, so you see which way he went. This is a VERY good field for this level. No easy spot.

2              DA DELIGHTFUL – That really was another good try last week. So, we’ll keep him on the tepid morning line favorite status, but anybody could be favored in here. It’s that wide-open. He’s versatile enough to do it any way, folks.

3              CAPTAIN BARBOSSA – I guess I can say I’m kind of disappointed with his last few months. I really thought he would step up and shine this year. Hasn’t happened yet. That can always change. Maybe he just likes later in the year?

4              WALKNAFTER MIDNITE – Two-moved and crushed a weaker bunch. This is a big step UP, with a few dropping. That’s never an easy thing to do. He will have to prove it to me again. Medium price play vs. these.

5              GROOVY JOE – We haven’t really seen him deliver his best in a while. They’ve tried him over at Yonkers and he’s been just okay. The race at Philly was much better. That’s the blueprint for success in here. Let’s see the speed, please.

6              ARTIE’S IDEAL – Artie was pounded down to big favorite last time, despite the immense class hike. You see how that worked out. Are they going to bet him that hard again? IF they do, I’m out. Your choice, folks?
