The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Tough getting passed the early line favorite Lucky Peridot (5-2) in Friday’s Tapeta feature for fillies and mares going one mile. 70 yards.

The seven year old mare gets a new lease on life going first time for the Jose D’Angelo barn with one-a-day Zayas in the boot but her credentials don’t stop there.

In her last, the mare had her head turned sideways at the start which turned out to be a portent of troubles to come.

Very few races are won with extreme ground loss, especially on the tighter-turns All-Weather, but racing 4-5 paths wide throughout and 8-wide into the lane sure isn’t the way to do it.

The rail and the pilot and the barn change will help for this filly who loves the trip and distance, going 2-for-5 in those scenarios.

Taking Lucky Peridot to win, no price restrictions, and an exacta box with surface loving Crystal Coast (7-2), wide draw and all.
