When I look at the filly Fetching, I’m reminded of another three-year-old, male from the Mark Casse barn. Here’s a hint: He won the Preakness.
Indeed, sex notwithstanding, what these sophomores have in common is that they were introduced to distance racing on turf before moving to the main track.
That’s not to say that Fetching (7-2) will turn out to be the female version of War of Will, then neither will she have to be. All she needs to be is her best Fetching to outlook today’s rivals.
Fetching is coming off a pair of turf routes–one over the local course–and she comes back in 25 days on dirt while moving up to state-bred stakes competition. Casse is showing confidence with this placement.
To us her pedigree is more dirt than turf, the distance has proven little problem and her pattern indicates a move forward is quite possible. Should she improve a tad, and with a four-pound spot from her elders, we believe Thursday’s experiment will work.
We’re taking Fetching, needing a minimum of 3-1 to win, and boxing an exacta with the fresh, pointed Cartwheel (9-2), a blowout winner over this track in fast time last year.
YESTERDAY: Navarro-Castellano team too strong in the Mahony, as advertised. Our price shot Nay Neverland finished well for place at 9-1; the exacta an acceptable $27.80…Mr. Buff also was too good ($3.20) and cold exacta with Dynamax Prime was more than fair at $16.60. Survive and advance…

The Saratoga Dew: Only one plodder in this race is three-years-old – Fetching. The lass on paper has the credentials. But, is she gonna beat the other entrants who are four-years-old, or more?
Eric Cancel has forgotten where the winners circle is as has the trainer Mark Henning with Cartwheel. Methinks that Lucky Move, off a solid race, is a good bet with Out of Orbit making Lucky work in deep stretch.
BTW, Mr. Pricci, take a look at the footnotes of the charts on the Mahoney yesterday. What think of the comments on Uncle Benny?
‘Stumbled badly and was HAND RIDDEN out of the gate’! Got a feeling I’m gonna bet a bunch on the blue blood next out; could be a good one, as he was flying on the turn; spent to much energy catching up to the other plodders.
Will check the replay when able, thx!
