I don’t think we fully expected MLB’s return-to-play plan to go off without a hitch, but this certainly isn’t the start that anyone was hoping for. Over a dozen people testing positive on one team and games being canceled within the first week? CBS Sports reports that “MLB commissioner Rob Manfred held a conference call with owners Monday and said he believes the ‘the protocols are adequate to keep our players safe’ but they will revisit some health directives. Right now, it really doesn’t feel like Manfred has a strong grasp on controlling this thing. It feels like he’s more just covering his eyes and hoping that things will work out for the best.” I couldn’t agree more. Manfred needs to tighten the screws by putting a better mitigation protocol into place – ASAP. It was reported that Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez, who has battled heart issues, said he’s scared and his concern has gone “from an 8 to about a 12.” Manfred needs to roll up his sleeves and get to work, pronto.
