What trainer Joe Catanese III and by extension, HRI. is making a big ask: That 3-year-old filly Maryquitecontrary (4-1) will take the measure of her elders in the Sheer Drama Stakes for Florida-bred females.
Her outside draw is both the good and bad news; good in that it gives regular rider Luca Panici options but worrisome is that shot spots most of this hard-hitting field valuable experience and maturity.
But she did beat her elders on debut, the outfit taking an apparent edge, getting 12-1 on the maiden claimer before going straight to stakes company and finished a good second in the key Azelea Stakes from which she and the winner returned to win next out.
We liked her recent win at today’s trip, at the end showing some of the grit grandsire Mecke was noted for. Her figures are steady and competitive, though not as fast as several stronger contenders
But do check out her race in the video section on the HRI homepage: Gulfstream Park, AUG 19, Race 6.
Other pluses include her liking for this strip (3) 2-1-0, and is (2) 1-1-0 going seven eighths. Her price should be fair.
Taking Maryquitecontrary to win at 3-1 or greater and keying quinellas with sharp/solid rivals Corey (7-2) and Don’t Get Khozy (4-1).
