LONG & WINDING ROAD

Whenever I see the G3 Sycamore, I know the end of Keeneland Fall is close and my bankroll is about to breathe a little easier; it’s been a tough meet.

So here we are; 12 furlongs on the turf and Chad Brown’s Focus Group is the 8-5 favorite in Thursday’s feature.

The barn has been batting 38% for this meet through Wednesday and here the Sycamore favorite is getting major class relief. The switch to Jose Ortiz indicates he will be aggressive in this mostly paceless affair.

Nevertheless, we’ll go after him with Nakamura (7-2), who likes Keeneland, like this trip, and who wouldn’t like their fate entrusted to Javier Castellano. Certainly Graham Motion does.

Taking Nakamura to win, 3-1 would be fair, an exacta box with the favorite, and using the sharp Midnight Tea Time (8-1) and price shot from live connections, Blended Citizen (15-1), to fill out super-exotics.

YESTERDAY: Combatant, cold on the board, was flat on the track.
