The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

At first blush, the Friday feature in Hallandale looks relatively easy. After all, Hercules (2-1) has the best recent form, is 4-for-12 at the trip but 1-for-9 doing anything else, has been claimed four straight times and Kelsey Danner is profitable with this type of spacing. He looms the likeliest winner.

Diving deeper, Peter Walder, very productive off the claim, has Slim Slow Slider (5-2) working bullets and the 3YO gelding attracts Miguel Vasquez, hottest rider on the grounds.

Septemberten (9-5) is a logical in-form favorite, and trainer Luis Duco (Agarramesipuedes–15-1) is profitable whenever stretching out sprint to route.

We’re prepared to gamble that Walder has figured Slim Slow Slider out, and convinced Vasquez to take the mount off the series of great am trials.

Even with his modest record and lacking a dirt-track win, the works tell the story of present condition, and he did win the only time he’s run today’s distance, albeit on AW.

His last was a throw-out, losing too much ground at the turn. See for yourself: Gulfstream Park, SEP 3, Race 9. Without a main-track win, the hope is he will fall between the parimutuel cracks.

Taking Slim Slow Slider to win at early line 5-2 or greater and exacta boxes with Hercules and Luis Duco’s price shot.
