The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

First Race Review: —

1 IDEAL FEELING – Usually at his best a level below this and he’s catching a very strong field today. The pole should

keep him in range, but I would have a hard time putting him on top, but Tim did choose over stablemate.

2 HARAMBE DEO – Put it all together again when he steamrolled the field last week! Yes, it was softer assignment, but

he was very good again. I’m not so worried about the class hike with him. He’s been here before. Very usable.

3 HUDSON PHIL – Invades from NY for barn that likes to race on Hambo Day. He’s running into a field of beasts, but his

current form is as sharp as it can be. Very anxious to see what Mark Mac has in store here. The speed, or the close?

4 SHAMWOW – Barn’s other starter in here gets a touch of post relief, which has to help. He will need a few things to go

right, but it’s not out of the question. I just hate when Tim T has to choose between stablemates. Handicapping 101.

5 ANGERS BAYAMA – I must admit when I am wrong! Angers proved me 100% wrong with a powerhouse effort past a

very classy foe two weeks ago. He’s that good! Will get yet another big test from both #7,8. Can’t wait to see who wins.

6 ANA AFREET N – Very quietly racing extremely well! Even as the class hikes have come. Impressive. Gets another new

driver with Scotty Z opting to #2. I’d be reluctant to leave this fella off the ticket completely. They’re going to mix it up.

7 SPRINGSTEEN – Loved him in Big M return last week and he scored decisively. Yes, the trip was perfect, but even more

important was Dexter choosing him over #8 tonight. That’s a BIG call. The Boss might finally be blossoming!

8 U S CAPTAIN – He was super good in beating up on the lesser level, but if DD opted to steer #7 today, doesn’t that

have to tell us something? That, plus the tougher post make him a little harder to like. Must step it up even more.

9 ESCAPETOTHEBEACH – He’s been pretty good too! But, he fell victim to the rough, overland journey chasing #5 last

time, and I don’t see that changing any time soon from this post. Would need much softer journey to reach.

10 TUXEDO BAY – He’s not ready for this, so we can safely eliminate for betting purposes today.

Race 2 Review

1 ROCK STAR MELINDA – Down from home base of New York to take a try against the big girls! At least she starts from

the rail. This will likely to be a little too tough for her.

2 NEW YEAR – Hasn’t stepped back up to the form we saw in Kentucky last fall. No worries. She’ll probably peak at that

time again. Gets a nice post here, but wasn’t Dunn’s choice. I expected that. Can still pick up a share if they battle early.

3 REFLECT WITH ME – She’s in super, super form right now. That was quite the war with Priceless out at Hoosier. Just a

real good stretch slugfest and horse race! This should be somewhat easier than that. Might have to cut this one too!

4 PEAKY SNEAKY – She’s very good right now! Like just about every horse from this barn. Dexter sticks with her, but I do

wonder what the plan is? Does she gun to battle #3 early. Might have to. Then it becomes a good sprint home. Trainer:

Raced big last week, never getting a breather. Fought all the way to the wire. She deserves a big win hopefully, today!

5 LADY LOU – It’s hard to say post five is bad, but in reality, it might be today! Just when I thought LL might be tailing

off, she roared back with huge race in the Geers. However, she does not gun out of the gate. Totally at mercy of trip.
