The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

GOING GULFSTREAM – DEC 16

As if a two-mile marathon isn’t changing and interesting enough, add a fraught forecast and this race could wind on on Tapeta Track giving 13 furlongs, not 16.

If weather dictates a surface switch, the Ortiz brothers are the beneficiaries. For openers, Jose is aboard Value Engineering (2-1) who won this event last year on Tapeta Track. He’s the shortest price of 3 Mike Maker entrants.

Of course, Todd Pletcher does his homework, too, and if the race is rescheduled, Six Minus (10-1) and Irad Jr. will take advantage of his recent prep for this NOV 12. He’s progressive and will be playable at half is ML.

Value Engineering is no one-trick equine. He is a four-time winner and like the Hallandale lawn as his (3) 1-2-0 slate suggests.

But if this races does remain on grass McLovin (5-1) rates the call. He won on the flat at Far Hills last out, at the two mile trip, and gets to shed 21 pounds coming from that fair type one day meet.

Sean Levey, who is spending his winter in South Florida during the European jump season,, gets the call from Arnaud Delacour.

On turf, McLovin to win at 5-2 or greater and an exacta box with Shawdyshawdyshawdy (5-1).

On Tapeta, Value Engineering to win, no price restrictions, and an exacta box with Six Minus.
