Kathleen O’Connell, North America’s newly minted all time leading female trainer, made two good calls recently, She found this spot, a preliminary allowances for state-bred fillies sprinting 6 furlong’s in Wednesday’s 7th race.
But first she ducked the Todd monster at her home base Sunday–you know, the filly that got the ‘Munny’ by 14-1/2 lengths by racing 7 furlongs in 1:20.09–that’s no typo–in favor of this proper condition.
We watched Dream Concert (5-2) win her career debut on the Tampa Bay Derby undercard under a very confident Antonio Gallardo, beating a fast, experienced rival with authority, winning with something left.
She had an outside post that day and is widest of the seven entered here. Irad Ortiz Jr. replaces Gallardo here and she has the look of a short-priced single in the horizontal pools.
We’ll pay to test that theory. Taking Dream Concert to win, no price restrictions, and use Charlie’s Wish (2-1), Sturdy Girl (8-1) and The Mrs. (3-1) to fill out the exotics.
