On whatever surface Saturday’s Not Surprising Stakes is run, California Frolic (7-2) will be ready.
Should it remain at 1-11/16 miles on the turf, great. The 3-year-old California Chrome colt came from the back of the pack to win the recent English Channel with a dramatic turn of foot.
See for yourself: Gulfstream Park, MAY 7, Race 6.
Should if be rescheduled to Tapeta Track, done. He’s 2-for-3 on that surface, a maiden claiming score followed by a preliminary allowances score.
Actually, he was claimed out of that maiden route by current trainer Armando De La Certa. Not many Florida-based trainer improve on Saffie Joseph but this colt did. Added maturity, by virtue of a brief freshening, likely helped, too. Either way, a great claim.
The connections are already out on this colt. No reason he won’t remain upwardly mobile. Good job all around.
Taking California Frolic to win at 5-2 or greater and quinellas with Treasure King (3-1) and Bob Marco (5-1).
