OMAHA BEACH? AWESOME

Good news in the inbox Monday morning for Omaha Beach fans from the press office at Del Mar: The blood work indicated that Omaha Beach will miss Sunday’s Shared Belief due to a virus, not an infection.

This means the aspiring 3-year-old champion of 2019 will return to the track sooner rather than later, giving trainer Richard Mandella enough time to prepare for the September 28 Awesome Again, the traditional West Coast prep for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Think perhaps Maximum Security has the Eclipse title locked up, whatever may happen in Saturday’s Travers Stakes? Well, what say you should Omaha Beach sweep two Grade 1s, including the big one over older horses, presumably including McKinzie on November 2?

We’re not saying that he will, but not saying that he won’t, either. This topsy turvy sophomore division might get some definition after all. Stay tuned.
