The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing


Hallandale Beach, July 5, 2024 – The countdown to the spa has long since begun and there’s no better way to prepare by paying attention in stakes action now, nationally and internationally, both.

And this Saturday at Gulfstream Park, recent UAE returnee and sprint champion Sibelius will begin his assault on Del Mar comes Breeders’ Cup Week at del Mar in November. The Smile Sprint goes as Race 9.

The $1 Pic 6 begins with the nominal feature, the grassy Grade 1 Belmont Derby, followed by the G2 John A Nerud for sprinters, Race 8, and finally the G1 Belmont Oaks, Race 9. Both are scheduled to be run on Aqueduct’s Outer Course.

The following are A-B-C grades for all four events:


Grade 1 BELMONT DERBY INVITATIONAL                                           Race 6

A: 4-Tricari (7-2) can shake loose early, Fair Hill base, fastest of 14 peers, week of 6/29 good early line value, 1-Legend of Time (5-2) Appleby/Godolphin runner benefits from race over course.

B:  2-White Palomino (5-1) Brown/Prat Team, very progressive figures, 5-Endlessly (6-5) proven class lines, McCarthy/Rispoli Team

C: 3-Royal Majesty (6-1) Mott/Alvarado Team, work week of 6/30 14th fastest of 162 peers.


A:   5-Mullikin (2-1) Brisset/Prat Team, very progressive figures, KEE work on 6/30 3rd fastest of 55 on the day.    4-Coastal Mission (7-2) top sprint connections, Horse for Distance (9) 7-1-1 1 turn-2 turn record.    1-Everso Mischievous (5-2) Cox/Tyler Team, Horse for Distance (3) 3-0-0.

B:   None

C:  None

G1 BELMONT OAKS INVITATIONAL                                                    Race 9                             

A:    7-She Feels Pretty (7-2) consistently fastest,  potentially loose on lead stretching out with Johnny, DeVaux ridiculously hot.   8-Cinderella’s Dream (9-2) overmatched in key race at Newmarket, drops 7 pounds, Appleby profitable in seven categories, including trainer changes, 5-for-8 at Big A, 40% with Buick.   2-Dynamic Pricing (5-1) Brown/Prat Team (6) 4-0-2, good and progressive Thoro Graph figures.

B:   5-Secret Satire (8-1) overmatched going 12F at Epsom, won 10F prior at York, dropping 7 pounds from 128, Frankie rides.   1-Pin Up Betty (10-1) won consecutive 9F races, including Churchill G3 last tie despite bearing out off awkward lead change in last.   6-Segesta (6-1) the “other Chad” G2 winner last out, progressive–albeit slower figures.

C:  None

GULSTREAM PARK                                                                  

SMILE SPRINT                                                                    Race 9

A:   5-Octane  (9-5)  fastest last-out Thoro Graph, 6 weeks recovery time, Jaramillo lifetime profitable in sprints.  6-Run Classic (5-2)  trouble midstretch in UAE, stylish win this trip here previously.  7-Sibelius (2-1)also had rough trip last out in UAE, proven classy

B:   4-Mish (12-1)  Horse for Course 7-15 and Distance 4-9   3-Comedy Town  (15-1)  1 of 3 Saffie’s live with Camacho.

C:   2-Legacy Isle (20-1)  progressive and steps up since possible key race.
