First Race Review…

1              IDEAL SON – The look of that qualifier line from down at Gaitway leaves me a little lacking. I will pass tonight.

2              ASTOR – Joe got two qualifiers into this guy, so that has the help a little. The second one looks a lot better. This is his level, and this is a nice starting spot. Should be stalking and if the pace is hot, it sets up a rally. A maybe use here!

3              POWER DREAMING N – Burned a little money in that last start before the shut-down. Added Lasix that day too! So, it’s back to the wars tonight, and it looks like his qualifier was okay. Not the worst spot to start back in. Adds Tetrick. Trainer: I think this little break helped. Gets Timmy T tonight and hopefully, we can pick up a piece.

4              THE MIGHTY MARNER – Heads out for a new barn, with just one qualifier showing. Looks like he passed a few tired ones? That 28.2 kicker appeals to me. Especially from a decent post like this. Not sure what the price will be.

5              WILLIE BOOTS – The 12YO Willie shows up again, and at the bottom level. Just kind of “went around there” for Sears in the qualifier and he gets the return assignment. Willie did have a win here earlier this year. Will things set up?

6              BIG TURN ON – Gets the very tepid call as favorite, in this impossible race to handicap. He was definitely facing better back in February, so this drop should make a difference. IF the barn has him ready, A Mac will put him in play.

7              I’M SID THE KID – Sid turns in a good one every now and then, WHEN he teams up with Dexter. That’s not the case here, as he chose #8 tonight. I just don’t like the post and potential for slow start in big, bulky field. Trainer: Had a nice, easy qualifier and has been itching to race.

8              RUN ONEOVER N – Shows that one nice win down at Freehold earlier this year. It did come against a lesser group, though. That’s the kind of speed he will need to overcome this post. Had tough trip in the Acres qualifier. DD’s pick.

9              SPORTS VISION – Offered up his best race of the year, just before we shut-down. Most of these horses will benefit from the rest after that, but I can’t say I’m in love with that qualifier. Would need much more than that tonight.

10           MISTER LOVE – Where’s he going from post 10? Probably not very far. Dismissible.

11           HARDTS OR BETTOR – Shows only one win from earlier this year and it didn’t come here. Hard to like tonight.

12           FRANKANDJOANNE – A Happy Birthday goes out to trainer Dawn A, who celebrated Thursday. This horse is known for a touch of speed every now and then, but when you start in second tier, that hurts a lot.

Race 2 Review

1              DEVIL OR ANGEL – Looking very much like a “work in progress” for Team Nifty. They got three starts into him, and the gelding did nothing but burn betting money. This field looks a tad too tough for the comebacker. I’ll be watching.

2              ROUSER HANOVER – Looked like an absolute gorilla when he got going in the winter. They took him to Pocono where he promptly jogged. His comeback qualifier was just fine, and note that Lasix has been added. Very much one to beat.

3              CIGAR SMOKING TONY – Homebred here! Making his debut against a pretty salty group. It’s hard not to like those qualifiers! Home in 26 flat, and you see who was in there. Top colts! Is Tony ready to deliver a big one? Probably.

4              TITO ROCKS – Maybe a tad disappointing in first start back. Can’t like that miscue. Gets a new driver here, but goal may be just to stay pacing. Not sure I could play him against #2 anyway. Wait for a softer spot.

5              BRAZEN BRAZILIAN – I liked his qualifier. Then he ran into a killer, starting from a bad post. One of these nights, he’s going to get lucky and win one of these. Just not tonight vs. a few real good ones.

6              JAM THAT GUITAR – Hasn’t shown very much yet, so he looks like a pass until further notice.

7              TAIL HOOK – Barn sending out everything firing on all cylinders. But, this one may be the exception. His qualifier here was just okay. I don’t see a whole lot of speed. Let’s see if he can pick off a few at the end.

8              YER SO BAD – Looks like a bit of an early lagger and I never like that. This post won’t help the cause, so I’m taking the wait-and-see approach on him for now. Will note for future evaluation.

9              NO LOU ZING – Lou is probably the “key” to the race. I still remember the flying finish in the qualifier. And, I was rather impressed with his good effort behind a monster. It showed me something. Now, he’s got to overcome tough post.

10           CALLINGALLBEACHES – It’s never a good idea to ignore anything sent out by this barn. But, that break in the first qualifier back spooks me! Followed it up nicely. But, it’s post 10. Will need a ton of speed, just to get into it.
