Today’s feature is an interesting one, the Bob Umphrey Sprint Stakes, run on Tapeta Track and as one might expect, it has drawn a full field.
The Virginian (4-1) may not have company lines as a gaudy as several of his pretenders but he has plenty going for him in this spot, namely his versatility.
He handles turf and SW with equal aplomb, has an adaptable running style that can either lead of follow. Indeed his best run came under these exact dynamics where he finished with a flourish.
Given the amount of speed signed on here, Miguel Vasquez might not have a choice aboard the Steve Klesaris trainee; there is 21-44 speed all over the place here, and his inside draw will enable a favorable inside trip.
Will his run go unimpeded? That why they run the races. But he loves this course and trip and blew out smartly last week. Check out his Tapeta score last fall for yourself: Gulfstream Park, OCT 9, Race 3.
We’re taking The Virginian to win at 4-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with the classy Yes I Am Free (7-2), the fresh, pointed Dubai Key (9-2), and price shot Chasing Artie (8-1), getting big time class relief here. Trifecta players should consider Tape To Tape beneath as well.
