The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

If the weatherman spares the area–and at this posting it doesn’t look like that would happen–it would make Shug McGaughey pleased as his On the Town, having shaken off the rust of a six month layup, is ready to win his second career start.

Yes, the 4-year-old filly owns a disappointing (11) 1-3-0 career slate, that win and one of the placings came under today’s conditions; 9 furlongs on the grass–one of those her placings on yielding ground, should that be the case.

Subsequent to that super-wide return, she worked a strong six furlongs in 1:13 1/5B north on route 95 at the Fair Hill training center and turf ace Forest Boyce takes the return call, presumably doing so with blinkers off, reflecting today’s equipment change.

On any figure maker’s scale, the 2-1 early line favorite owns consistently superior speed and pace figures. Alas, she’s no automatic as speedy, well drawn Mike’s Girl (3-1) makes her first start for Claudio Gonzalez, a profitable 23% effective in that scenario.

We’re taking On the Town to win, no price restrictions, an exactas box with Mike’s Girl, and keying On the Town on top in trifecta’s over ‘Mike’s’, Mona Luna (12-1) and Inside the Box (8-1). Consider the latter to win should the race be rescheduled to the main track.
