The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Thursday’s eighth race featured for for fillies dashing 5-1/2 for the opportunity to employ Handicapping 101 technique to dethrone a righteous favorite.

Whatever figures you rely on, you’re going to find Hot Peppers (5-2) atop that list. Her 14 length graduation in her dirt debut (prepped on Tapeta) resulted in a figure that lays over the field.

A regression seems more than likely returning on relatively short rest.

But the basics show that this is a race loaded with horses capable of pressing this favorite. As stated, not relying on one challenger but a possibly host of them. Of course, she can win this all that.

However, it’s Chasing Happiness (7-2) who intrigues most. After breaking maiden in second start on the engine, she shipped to Tampa for the Sandpiper where a trouble break took her out of the game from the start.

She still managed to make a run, split rivals and got up to save the show. Check the race for yourself: Tampa Bay Downs, DEC 4, Race 7.

She’s never run this short but has an experience and conditioning edge. Her outside slip gives Irad Ortiz options in relation to the pace. She goes first Lasix for David Fawkes with good spacing

We’re taking Chasing Happiness to win at 5-2 or greater and an exacta box with the favorite.
