The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1   DE LOS CIELOS DEO – There’s some strong back class with this one here and this is surely a spot he could crush in on his A game. However, he has had five months off and still figures to take a lot of money here so bettor beware.

2   THE WALL – They came for him a bit on the class drop last time out and he had a tough trip first over and tired late. He now takes another drop down the class ladder and I like him here if he can work out a better trip.

3   EMBLAZE HANOVER – The three recent tries against tougher don’t look the best, but if you look four and five back against these types of foes, he has taken money and raced pretty well too. I’ll toss him in my numbers here.

4   BIG BOSS HILL – Last two haven’t been bad, but this is a horse that went 1-for-30 last season. Does have a lot of minor placings though, so he could be usable in the exotics if you wish. Has minimal experience on the big track.

5   CATCH ME CONRAD – The back class and number of times he’s won and hit the board in the past few seasons is obvious, but he hasn’t been able to break through here yet despite taking money. Drop in class again here, though.

6   SOUTHWIND PETYR – Tough spot last time out off the two month layoff from Post 10 and against tougher competition than this. Still think he may need the race here, even on the class drop tonight.

7   MONTY MONO – Recent form doesn’t look to be the best over at Yonkers, but he is continuing to drop his way down the class ladder and he did win over this track last season. I’ll still choose to pass and watch here.

8   SNAP CALL – Won well last time out on the ship over from Yonkers against bottom level TM company. This is a tougher spot tonight and he draws an outside post, so I’ll take a pass here and wait for a better spot for him.

9   TEAM BEST – Last time out here was his first start since late July and he had to work from a tough post against this level of competition. Needed that start and won’t be surprised if he needs this one as well.

10 MCCLINCHIE N – Solid second last time at Freehold and there have been some okay races there in the recent form lines. Unfortunately, this is a tough post for him to work from and I’m not so sure how far he gets from here.

Race 2

1   SETONCRUISECONTROL – He’s had to work from some tough posts in the last few and he did seem to have some late pace to offer last time out before getting involved in an incident through the stretch. Has to work out a trip here.

2   SOMIKI – Raced pretty evenly last time out off of the month off and the ship in from Saratoga. He did take 8-1 support last time out here at the Meadowlands, but I want to see a bit more from him before I support him here.

3   HURRYMIKI HANOVER – Tough spot from an outside post at Freehold last time out and breaking issues before that. The efforts three and four back against similar type claimers at Philly weren’t too bad, though.

4   GOTAFOOLISHDESIRE – The last several at Yonkers haven’t been all that bad. Add in the past Meadowlands success and good post draw here and he could be worth a bit of a look in this spot at a price.

5   LET’S GET ROCKED – Pocono form wasn’t too bad and he was in a tough spot two back on debut here for the Morrissey barn. A bit disappointing last time out at Yonkers, though, so I’ll pass and look elsewhere in this field.

6   LONE WOLF AMERICAN – There’s been some good efforts sprinkled in his recent form, especially over the big track here, including a solid third against tougher claimers two back. Good post draw and I’ll be using him here tonight.

7   MIDNIGHT DAY – Comes in off a sick scratch and a month off, but the last two races against claimers down at Philly haven’t been too bad and he could be worth an include here if he’s ready to fire off the short layoff.

8   FOX VALLEY CARLIN – The last two trips haven’t quite worked out for him, but he has the most consistent form that I can make out in here, which is enough for me to put him on top in this spot. Has burned money in the last two though.

9   VEL LARRY – He’s been earning the checks since joining the Annunziata barn against similar claimers and will look to find success on the big track here tonight. The Northfield form from earlier this season isn’t too bad either.

10 BLUE OCEAN – Good mile three back at a number at the Big M. Tough trip trying to leave two back and took back early last time out. This is an easier group of claimers for him, but the trip has to work from an outside post again.
