The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

What with Saffie Joseph starting four of the nine runners in the featured Musical Romance (Jose D’Angelo has 2) we decided to pass in favor of a more interesting scenario.

Today’s ninth race is an optional allowances on Tapeta Track for s-year-olds going one mile 70 yards and it’s east to understand why Foxtrot Harry was made the 5-2 early line choice:

Sandino Hernandez is on a roll and he won first out off the claim from Mike Maker. Further, he protected him using the allowance conditions here.

But two intrigue more: Private Thoughts (3-1) and Speed Control (4-1).

In the former’s case, he won when entered with a $50,000 tag already, which represents a drop here and has proven consistently fastest on the Thoro Graph scale.

He fits the dynamics beneath new partner Drayden Van Dyke, going turf to dirt for Ron Spatz and was narrowly beaten in his last Tapeta run in a key race in which the winner came back to win. He was beaten a neck.

But then there’s Speed Control, a first-time gelding for Carlos David who’s won 6 of his last 10 and is a profitable 22% going turf to synth.

Depending on closing odds, we’ll take Private Thoughts to win and key box exactas with his rivals above, including price shot Mo Caliente for Nolan Ramsey who’s on a roll here and elsewhere.

Further, we’ key box Speed Control first and second in tris with the rivals named above.
