The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

I See the Light

As this is written, it’s probably harder to know whether today’s featured eighth race at Belmont Park will remain on turf or be rescheduled to a wet main track. So says the forecasts.

Should the race stay on turf, early line favorite Dr. Shane (2-1) looks too good to lose. He has recency, improved big time in his recent win on this course, and has excellent spacing for this barn.

Further, Kendrick Carmouche is a profitable 27% when riding for Danny Gargan (large sample) and is an elite grass rider.

If I chose one to beat him it would be strictly a guess. I’ll bet him to win, price dependent, also very tough to gauge in a small field pre-program scratches. I will use Oleksandra (6-1) in exactas. He moved forward in his Belmont debut and is peaking, but would need another forward move to beat the choice.

If on dirt, we’ll gamble on a horse that hasn’t run in a year. MTO Wonderful Light (3-1) is clearly faster than the group on best and has a string of 10 works for trainer Michelle Nevin. On dirt, we’d box an exacta with sharp ship-in Share the Ride (2-1) in addition to a win bet on ‘Light’.

YESTERDAY:  Kreesie made two challenging moves but to no avail, finishing fourth at 2-1. Rates another chance in the proper spot.
