There’s a seam in the weather zone and it appears at this posting that Wednesday’s seventh race strong mid-level optional starter for juveniles.
Three of the nine appear to have the inside track: Adios Buccaneer (5-2), Possiblemente (3-1) and price shot Asplunder (8-1). In post order, inside-out:
Aspluder is the most interesting, the price will be attractive as he is making both his turf and two-turn debut but know this. His mom produced five foals, all winners, including one stakes, but wait there’s more.
Of Asplunder’s sibling, four of the five won on turf and the barn, that of Katy Cheeks, is batting a highly worthy 30% with new acquisition. Regular partner Scott Spieth is aloft once again.
The ‘Buccaneer’ is the right favorite. He earns the fastest Thoro-Graph figures with consistency who showed tactical speed and kick to win a turf two-turner on debut on this turf for Kathleen O’Connell. He is nicely drawn and properly spotted for a repeat victory, a deserving favorite.
But the lean is Possiblemente who beat weaker in two-turn and turf debut over this course, overcoming tough circumstances to do so.
Showing tactical speed throughout, racing between horses much of the way, he kicked on strongly to the finish and takes a confident class rise. Today’s obstacles are the widest draw of nine and the need for winning partner Angel Suarez to save ground at some juncture.
Further, he returns in 23 days and our biggest fear is that he might not be quite as sharp. But we were impressed enough with the win to gamble. Darien Rodriguez is, after all, 25% effective in LAY-2 scenarios.
We’ll take Possiblemente to win at 3-1 or greater and a three-horse box with his rivals above.
