While the finals of the Florida Sires Stakes for juveniles are win-and-in Breeders’ Cup qualifiers but both the In Reality and My Dear Girl for the fillies does occasionally produced an in-the-money outsider in any of the Breeders’ Cup Juveniles.
Both races feature at heavy favorite, the male Awesome Strong (7-5) and the filly Lynx. Both are 3-for-3 lifetime and the two turn trip should be in their respective wheelhouses. Each will be heavily favored.
We chose the In Reality to feature here for two reasons, a possible upset in no pipe dream and even if the favorite were to win, there are enough money contenders to fill lout the exotics vertical of choice.
The colt with the best upset chance to is Apocalypso (6-1), a no-match third when beaten by Awesome Strong in the Affirmed, second leg of this series. But a video review indicates that Saffie Joseph’s colt will get plenty out of his most recent effort.
Breaking from the inside in a large field, he took dirt all the way down the backstretch and that experience should serve him well at today’s trip. So will his pedigree and pole position.
The race was virtually over when Edgard Zayas finally got Apocalypso rolling. Angling out into the 7-path he rolled down the middle of the track and was up for third while ridden out. Very educational indeed.
We will take Apocalypso to win at 4-1 or greater and a quinella with the favorite.
