The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

UPDATED: IN SEARCH OF SARATOGA SHIPPING MONEY, BELMONT PARK NOW INCLUDED

Hallandale Beach, FL, July 9, 2021 – Most horseplayers are counting the days before the opening of the Saratoga racing season—six if keeping score at home.

But not racetracks around the country. Even though it’s the same circuit, the New York Racing Association is leaving Long Island with two international invitational turf events for three year olds of either sex. NYRA also has a graded sprint stakes for sophomore fillies, G3 Victory Ride, for good measure.

In Stanton, Delaware, the signature event there, the Delaware Handicap for fillies and mares over a mile and quarter while male turf runners will test their marathon skills at 11 furlongs.

Locally, Gulfstream Park will launch the second season for Florida-based three year olds with the always interesting Carry Back Stakes at seven furlongs, a listed event and a head-scratcher of a handicapping puzzle.

We’ve done the work and will offer graded betting grids for Delaware and Gulfstream Park, and will update the grids with the three graded events from Belmont on Saturday morning:

    Belmont Park

7th race-In a very deep field the pick here is Gam’s Mission (8-1) Lightly raced 3 year old with a pedigree suited for a mile and a quarter. We cashed last race with her, let’s make it 2 in a row. Use the 4,7 with the 1,5 in all your exotics with Gam’s Mission as the key.

8th race- Another very competitive race with a packed field of good horses. #3 Miss Brazil is the pick here. Beaten favorite against some of these in last (where she broke through the gate). Her turn. Use the 2,4,7 to get the exotic score.

9th race- Can these races get any harder? This race needs to be boxed for sure using all even numbers: 2,4,6,8. The win bet here is the #8 Cellist(12-1).

The 7th and 9th race selections provided the races stay on the turf.
Let’s go get the bad guys, Vin O’

  2. Couldn’t agree more Vin; these races are deep and competitive. Having said that, the Euros are sure to appreciate the cut in the ground. The turf rates to be soft but there’s a huge difference between U.S. and foreign grass courses–truly boggy over there.

  3. Vin & John, Thank you both for “…done the work…” once again. For the most part today, I am siding with John’s analysis and going with “the Euro’s sure to appreciate the cut in ground” angle. Sort off like listening to Harvey Pack as well, whispering in my ear as well “The Euro’s have “already proven” having success on the softer more yielding going.”

My saver “Get out of Dodge” wager today however will be on a straight Win bet, adding to the mix a ticket on Vin’s Cellist call in Belmont 9. Safe journeys to all.

P.S. If I get beat, I hope it will be one of the HRI crowd that takes the fifty wagered out of my pocket is all. If I should win, I’m only going to return the money to her purse any hoot. Lol.

  4. O’Brien’s duo did not disappoint on Saturday at Belmont. It’s hard to look past the Euro’s when they get their good to soft footing and especially at the 10 furlongs or longer distances.

    1. No question about that, Tony, and I think we’ll see more of it in the future. Those horses put on an excellent show…
