The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Marc Lawrence — CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval said, “This time next week, the Big Ten will have played its first slate of games in its 2020 season. Another couple of weeks after that, the Pac-12 and the rest of the FBS will have joined the party. It’s a reminder that there’s a lot of football that not only has to be played, but a lot of football that hasn’t even started.” He insists that two playoff spots have already been insured with Alabama’s win over Georgia and Clemson’s gutting of Georgia Tech. The Tide and the Tigers may not play great every week. They may even lose a game along the way. But it won’t be enough to deny them a spot in the College Football Playoff… On the flip side, Mississippi State’s offensive woes since surprising LSU are well documented. In a 28-14 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday, the Bulldogs scored just one offensive touchdown. That means Mike Leach’s offense has scored 21 offensive points in its last three games – all losses. How impressive was Alabama’s win over Georgia this past Saturday? From ESPN: Alabama improves to 80-77-1 all-time versus AP top-10 opponents. Among 114 teams to have played top-10 teams at least 10 times, Alabama is the only one with a winning record. FYI: Nick Saban now has 86 wins against AP-ranked teams, tying him with Joe Paterno for most all-time. FWIW: It was good to learn Saban’s COVID tests were false positives. Long live the King.
