A groundbreaking ceremony for the New York Islanders arena at Belmont Park is scheduled for Monday afternoon, according to a report in Newsday.
Though they’ve been digging for weeks, the Islanders owners have fulfilled a promise to have the ceremony after Labor Day.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office has begun sending out email invitations to local dignitaries inviting them to “please join Governor Cuomo for an announcement” at Belmont Park, the story continued.
Spokespeople for Cuomo and Empire State Development Corp. have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Maybe Cuomo will bring the construction permit with him so they can pour the cement. I wonder if the airspace above Belmont will be restricted for choppers? Great to see everything is moving along. Should have a nice turnout from the Isles since they probably have practice Monday morning in East Meadow. Keep the good news coming Mark.
Another lawsuit filed over the weekend, this one by the group that Norman Siegel was involved with, no surprise there.
