The New York Arena Partners expect to break ground this summer for the Islanders arena at Belmont Park and have repeatedly stated that it will be ready for the opening of the 2021-22 NHL hockey season.
Jack Sterne, spokesperson for the New York State’s Empire State Development Corporation, said today in a statement that the final environmental impact statement will be released in July, which will not affect the projected timeline for the construction of the arena.
The FEIS is the final document needed before the approval process begins. Following the report, approvals are expected by the ESD, NYS Franchise Oversight Board and the NYS Public Authorities Control Board.
The ESD and FOB approvals have always been viewed as a rubber stamp and last week three of the five members of the PACB, NYS Senators Anna M. Kaplan, Todd Kaminsky and Leroy Comrie, issued a joint statement supporting construction of the arena.
