Pickings are slim are on preferred surface in Olsdmar, the Tampa turf course but handicappers must play the cards that are dealt, in this case the sixth race for $16.000 claiming fillies and mares going one mile.
The pace of this turner might not be the fasted but past performances indicates that it rates to contested and that should be in the wheelhouse of Claddagh’s Run who holds a class edge on the group and should benefit from her recent return to Florida.
Of greater significance is the fact that she’s done her best racing at this level and returns to that classification here after her comebacker down south. As for that race, it wasn’t so much a troublesome one, or one in which she flashed some life, but one in which she never was comfortable.
From the gate and throughout that two-turner Claddagh’s Run raced between horses and was unable to extricate herself from the heard. When she did, there were some roadblocks and there was no rally, not a one-paced finish that she move her forward here.
George Weaver has a good record shipping here from his Palm Beach training center, his horses outran their odds throughout 2020 and he’s reaching out to Hector Diaz Jr, who finished second on this filly the only two times he was aboard.
Check out her uncomfortable journey on the TAMPA BAY TODAY Video on RACE 1, DEC 26 at GULFSTREAM PARK to see if her effort strikes you the same way. There will never be a better spot for this mare to get that initial win.
We’re taking Claddagh’s Run (2-1) to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing exactas with Moms Love (5-1), exiting the best recent race over the course, and Katz You Later (4-1), making her first start for a barn that’s profitable with new acquisitions and attracting co-leading rider Antonio Gallardo.
