The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Interesting feature in Hallandale to close the racing week, a preliminary allowances going a flat mile for horses that will celebrate their third birthday 26 days from now. It features the usual array of experienced types vs. clever recent maiden breakers.

We’re opting from experience, suitable pace dynamics, a barn that does well with its young horses and a switch to Junior Alvarado, in South Florida early this year hoping to replicate his fine 2020-2021 championship meet.

After breaking maiden at the trip two starts back, Strike Back tested deeper waters suffering through a wide trip in Churchill’s G3 Iroquois then met promising White Abarrio in his return here, having little chance to catch the eventual Jockey Club third finisher in a rapid 23 3/5 behind a very moderate pace.

He’s been doing this while racing greenly as he remained on his incorrect left lead in his first three starts but that issue appears to be behind the Matthew Williams-trained gray. The addition of blinkers should help further. Check out his maiden breaker on AUG 29 here, Race 9.

Taking Stroke Hard to win at 4-1 or greater and quinellas with Skippylongstocking (7-2) and So Determined (2-1)
