COLLEGE Football: What We’ve Learned

It was supposed to be the boring weekend of the season. It was the last Saturday before the SEC starts up. The Big 12 had just one ranked team in action. The ACC had a ranked matchup between Louisville and Miami (Fla.), but there wasn’t much to get excited about. Enter Navy. Twelve days after being routed 55-3 by Brigham Young in front of a national television audience on Labor Day, the Midshipmen found themselves down 24-0 to Tulane at halftime. Thirty minutes last the Middies rallied to a 27-24 win and suddenly their season was salvaged … Meanwhile, Louisiana-Lafayette found themselves ranked for the first time in the AP Poll for the first since since 1943 after its stunning win at Iowa State and was due for a letdown. The Ragin’ Cajuns had to rally back on the road at Georgia State to pull out a wins … Appalachian State fell on the road at Marshall and ruined an expected showdown of undefeated teams at UL-Lafayette on Oct. 7 … To read more on Saturday’s CFB card click here.

According to ESPN Stats: There will be 14 playoff teams in the NFL this year for the first time. Under a 12-team format from 1990-2019, 62% of teams to start 2-0 reached the playoffs, 43% of teams to start 1-1 made the playoffs and only 12% of teams that started 0-2 made the playoffs.
