Saturday’s program offers a pair of 7-furlong sprints for Florida breds of either sex. We think the filly race is a bit more interesting and offers a better opportunity for value.
It’s easy to spot the favorite in this distaff division of the Juvenile Sprint. Lynx (9-5) finished second in the My Dear Girl going long last out, her lone defeat in four career starts.
One of her wins came at today’s trip and Carlos David drilled her rapidly for the turnback to one turn. The filly that beat her, Atomically, was purchased privately thereafter and goes next in the Breeders’ Cup for new trainer Todd Pletcher.
Finishing a non-threatening third out of this obviously live race was, who is also turning back in trip, is Dorth Vader (8-1), another who blew out rapidly for her one-turn return.
Bettors will need to watch this replay, not only for today’s play but to note the performance of Atomically with regard to her Keeneland run next Friday; see the HRI Video section on the homepage for:
GULFSTREAM PARK, OCT 1, Race 8.
Do note that while Michael Yates’ juvenile did save ground, she had to steady out of tight quarters entering the far turn, needing to be used hard to get back into contention.
She wasn’t as good as the top two, and the favorite will be hard to beat here. But the difference in price is the difference in our approach.
Taking Dorth Vader to win at 5-1 or greater, and quinellas with Lynx and the strong working PBD ship-in Hoax (5-2) for the omnipresent Pletcher operation.
