Two seven furlong sprints for Maryland-bred babies and call me old school but it’s good to see that it will be ladies first; ladies from New York and Philadelphia but it’s the local gal who caught our eye.
But don’t take my word for see for, check out the [Laurel Live video from OCT 19, Race 7] the appropriately named Hello Beautiful (5-2), a very stylish winner of the Maryland Million Lassie.
Like several of her rivals, she has a good deal of early speed but if her final quarter mile in that event means anything–and it does–today’s added furlong should be well within her wheelhouse.
Hello Beautiful battled with a speedy rival virtually in hand, separated herself, straightening away, then got stronger nearing the wire, galloping out strongly well into the clubhouse turn.
She loves this surface, winning both of her local starts, return with good spacing for a barn that’s 30% successful with horses seeking to repeat. gets along well wit Sheldon Russell and her outside draw gives the rider options.
However, she likely will be shorter than her early line suggests. Miss J McKay (2-1) met good grass fillies in New York last out but must prove herself on this ground.
If the recent claim and newly blinkered Hufflepuff wants to mix it up to her outside, Philly ship-in Project Whiskey (6-1), twice proven at the trip, is a viable alternative who might slip between the pari-mutuel cracks.
But ‘Beautiful’ showed she might be a notch above these fillies; now she just needs to go out and prove it.
