The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Newswriter — With Charlatan on the bench for an unspecified injury, taking him out of the Metropolitan Handicap, trainer Brad Cox called an audible and will run Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner on the Belmont undercard, June 5.

Knicks Go, who was fourth in the Saudi Cup in his last start this winter, was re-routed from Lone Star’s Steve Sexton Mile on Memorial Day.

Trainer Brad Cox told Dave Grening of Daily Racing Form that the reason behind the change is that Charlatan is not running in the famed G1 Met Mile.

In addition to the injury, NYRA is not accepting entries from trainer Bob Baffert until after the adjudication of the Media Spirit positive for betamethasone.

At this posting, Dr. Post, Lexitonian, Mischevious Alex and Silver State, among others, are pointing for the Met. Cox has champion Essential Quality getting ready to make amends in the day’s marquee event.
