The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Just like down south, juveniles of both sexes are being featured on Saturday up north in Oldsmar.

The ladies are up first and the Sandpiper at 6 furlongs is a duel between the favorites: Chi Chi (8-5) and Toupie (2-1).

Chi Chi has won two Florida-bred stakes in her first two dirt starts after starting her career on turf, pairing up good figures to build on.

Edwin Gonzales makes the trip north to stay with this filly for Herman Wilensky, batting an otherworldly 31% with his shippers. Things to like for sure.

But we’ll look for the tiniest upset with the Graham Motion-trained Toupie (2-1) an impressive winner of debut before switching to turf for her last three runs, her last an Aqueduct stakes victory.

She makes her fifth start at a different venue and returns to dirt where she’s 1-for-1. Strong finishing Jorge Ruiz, who does lot of riding for Motion in the Mid-Atlantic, comes with the package.

Taking Toupie to win at 2-1 or greater and an exacta box with the favorite.
