The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

‘GOING GULFSTREAM’ OCT 31

Let’s Be Honest. Bramble Berry (9-5) is the deserving favorite and will be a tough out. Dropping to today’s $20,000 starter allowance level, he returned to the circle, shaking loose and clear from the jump going 7 furlongs after adding blinkers.

She returns at the same level as Edwin Gonzalez will try to win her fourth race aboard the Kent Sweezey trainee.

But let’s Be Honest, (5-2), the horse has an excellent upset chance given her superior conditioning and the fact she is turning back to his best trip, as her slate of (5) 2-1-0 at the hybrid distance of 6-1/2 furlongs indicates.

The clincher was her last race in which she mid-race moved, appeared to be on her way when she was carried out into the lane, fought the length of the stretch but tired in the final strides, beaten a neck in one of the moral-victory but narrow defeat losses.

Check out the replay of her latest and see if you agree: Gulfstream Park, SEP 26, Race 7.

Improved since she was claimed by Enrique Torrez this summer and the switch to Leonel Reyes has suited her very well indeed. We like the idea that Torrez is hiking her in class, a sign of confidence.

Taking Let’s Be Honest to win at early line odds or greater and a quinella with the favorite.
