The two best races on the Gulfstream program to begin the race week in Hallandale are both for juvenile maidens. We chose the one with the most entrants which provides a chance for value against the favorite.
The bonus is there’s an interesting first-timer that rates to be a huge price but that not big a surprise should he pop up and win the 5-furlong sprint on Tapeta Track.
There are three maidens that figure to improve in their second starts: Oh Darlin (5-2) and Seeking Stardom (4-1) caused themselves problems in their debuts–check out Gulfstream Park, OCT 7, Race 4 and decide who deserves ore forgiveness.
Additionally, Lady Hamilton (5-1) showed much improved speed in second start over this surface, is six weeks fresh and may have a tactical advantage.
We will be using all three in an exacta box — but we will attempt to score out with a first-time starter from the Antonio Sano barn not known for its debut types. (The outfit has split entries in here).
But this one cost $170K at the sales, over the sire’s average, and has worked fast at PMM, also unusual for this barn. At 20-1 on the early line, we’d like to squeeze Ree into a trifecta key box.
