The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Today’s Laurel Park feature is a bit unusual, an optional claiming/allowances sprint at 5-1/2 furlongs on the dirt. Even at that, the races only was able to attract six entrants.

Well, we’ve narrowed six down to two and even if it breaks the best way, it doesn’t figure to make you wealthy. So, who is it going to be, Military Hop (5-2) or Dirtyfoot (2-1)?

The former goes for the familiar Philly connections of Frankie Pennington and Marcus Zulueta. A relatively new acquisition for this outfit, no one will be surprised by Military Hop’s running fast figures after finding his new home.

Dirtyfoot (2-1) is making his first start of 2020, returning from a seven month layup with a strong series of works for a barn not generally known for its layoff returnees. However, Robert Bailes may be topping his hand here as he found an uncoupled mate to fill this race.

The clincher is the fact that Dirtyfoot likes it here as both lifetime wins have come at this Free State fixture. Further, his (5) 1-2-1 slate at the distance is preferred to his rival’s lone placing in two starts at the trip. Style-wise, Dirtyfoot rates to get first run reuniting with winning partner Forest Boyce.

His last race should give a good indication of how Dirtyfoot will get his job done. Check out the Laurel Park Live Video on out homepage, JUN 8, RACE 10. We’ll bet straight but require a 2-1 minimum to do so, and box an exacta with Military Hop.
