Friday eighth race feature is an optional claimer for older fillies and mares made difficult by the fact that the dynamics are a bit confusing; there’s a little of everything which makes it very much a rider’s race. Put another way, it’s tricky.
We thought that two of the nine had the best chance to succeed and while the video’s for each show some redeeming quality, at the same time they expose weakness.
Hats Off too You (7-2) has the most upside and has been adroitly handled by breeder/trainer Ryan Walsh. After two synth starts at Presque Isle, she shipped into Gulfstream for her turf and claiming debut.
In contention showing run throughout, she topped off the fence, caught the leader and was going well at the end of the 5 furlongs. Today she try to extend her abilities another three furlongs which she’s bred to handle on her top side. The feeling is these are connections with a plan.
But her main rival, Frosted Rose has more attributes; namely experience against overnight stakes rivals, a race over the course, a better post and drops to a career low level. Antonio Gallardo sticks–a bit of a push since Daniel Centeno takes the mpount on the shipper.
We’re going to let our eyes guide us, as it appears to us that ‘Rose”s’ high action is more ideal to today’s task. Splitting hairs? Yes. But the choice is 50-50. See if you agree. Check out the Tampa Today Race Video on the homepage for what you can pick up watching RACE 5 on FEB 1.
We’ll take a straight play on ‘Rose’, an exacta box with ‘Hats Off’.
