The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Rolling the dice in today’s featured seventh race at Gulfstream in a number of ways.

First. we’re taking on a three-ply Jose D’Angelo uncoupled entry in a seven filly lineup. Secondly, recent claim Lady Azteca (7-2) is “out of jail’ following her $35,000 claim last out and thus eligible to run for that tag now.

But Luis Ramirez presumably wants to win on the raise to $50,000 and is trying two new things, cutting the filly back into a sprint and adding blinkers.

Ramirez has been successful on both counts in the past, particularly with his turn-backs, and Lady Azteca’s style should suit a one-run try at today’s shorter trip.

With the price likely to be fair, we’ll pay to find out. Betting Lady Azteca to win at 7-2 or greater and key-boxing trifectas first ad second with the sharp D’Angelo graduate Call Me Spicy (7-2), class dropping Horse for Course Bedtime Story (9-5), and well spotted Saffie last-out graduate, Face The Music (9-2).
