Another sprint stakes, another six horse field, another open event. This has officially gotten old.
But there is an old pro that has some advantages going into Thursday’s John A. Morrissey Stakes.
Well drawn in post five, Jose Lezcano will have plenty of options. He can stalk weaker speed to his inside, or he simply could cut Lulu loose. Eye Luv Lulu can prove the speed of the speed if that’s the option chosen.
His performance figures are competitive with the group and he is somewhat of a specialist at today’s hybrid 6-1/2 furlong distance.
Chances are good that the 5-2 early line quote will be available at post time; those would be fair odds.
YESTERDAY: Javier Castellano waited just a bit too long with Chalon–and the filly waited a bit too long to hit her top stride. By then, Minit to Stardom, going turf to dirt, had given them the slip, her third straight win since entering the Jose Camejo barn. Our filly was a very game runner-up.
