The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

As mentioned in yesterday’s graded entry down memory lane, we think Tom d’Tate (4-1) is he most interesting of all the Woodward entrants.

He’s improved big time this season for Al Stall Jr. and still appears to be marching forward. He won his Alydar prep for this with deceptive ease, a race that has produced a from one subsequent starter.

This horse for course in 3-for-3 lifetime on this oval and he likes the trip, too, sporting three wins from five lifetime starts at 9 furlongs. He loses Rosario to prior-commitment Yoshida but Irad Ortiz is a more than adequate replacement.

For sure, the draw did him no favors but, assuming a clean break, he could trip out here as he doesn’t need any made to order conditions. I would somewhere near his early line for straight betting.

Key-boxing exactas with Mr. Buff (8-1), a well drawn tactical type who will appreciate the dynamics, and the defending Woodward titlist, Yoshida (5-2).

Exotically speaking, we will fill out the bottom of Tris and Supers with sharp working Vino Rosso (7-2) and overlay Bal Harbour (15-1).

YESTERDAY: Fig Jelly was a program scratch as Jason Servis went solo with ‘Shekky’.

  1. JP,
Agree the Woodward is ripe for a Coup, but if Tom d’Tat is your sword, why not Todd’s Wooderson as your shield?

Loving Preservationist as I still do, respecting Yoshida, and unable to let go of Vino,
I’ll be super boxing those five.

  2. I understand that ‘Tom’ and Wooderson are coupled, coming out of the same race, and will be a much bigger price. But I very much like what I see from ‘Tom’ and believe he will continue marching… As for the Super box, a safe and speedy journey to all…
