JULY 30, 2019–The New York Racing Association and the City of Saratoga Springs will honor the legacy of Thoroughbred owner, breeder and philanthropist Marylou Whitney on Saturday to coincident with the running of the Grade 1 named in honor of her late husband, Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney.
In addition, the clubhouse gate at Saratoga Race Course is to be named in honor of Mrs. Whitney, the “Marylou Whitney Clubhouse Entrance,” as will Contennial Park, also to be renamed in honor of the woman regarded as the “Queen of Saratoga.”
HorseRaceInsider executive editor John Pricci will post personal remembrances of Mrs. Whitney as a tribute to memory and the contributions she made not only to Saratoga. but literally to thousands of people as well–from ordinary citizens, to backstretch workers, to the highest members of “high society.”
And, of course, a post-race analysis of Saturday’s storied mile and an eighth. She would not have wanted it any other way. She truly cherished horse racing and all of the people in it.
