Race 1

1             PHILOSOPHIZER He gave it a pretty good speed try from Post 10 last week at 57-1, but this a tougher field and the rail isn’t the easiest to get away from on top. I’ll pass here and wait for a different spot for him.

2             SAFENSOUND HANOVER               I liked him as my third choice last week and he delivered a win at 63-1. He likely gets some more respect off that win, but once again he will need that outer flow to work in his favor here.

3             SUNNY AND EIGHTY        He closed pretty good ground in the back half of the mile last time out and was only beaten two and a half lengths in the end. Hopefully he can be just a little bit closer earlier here tonight.

4             SGT PAPA DADDY             He took some money at 6-1 from Post 10 last time based on the Vernon form and he raced pretty well to finish third, albeit far back of the winner. Much better draw tonight should certainly help his hopes.

5             ITS JUST TOO MUCH       The post gods have not been very kind to this one in recent tries, but he does finally draw well here. Nonetheless, this seems be a bit tougher than his last few spots and he’ll need to step up to contend here.

6             AIN’T IT FUN       He was able to pass a few tired ones late against similar last time out, but it looks like he needs to improve a bit to contend in this spot. The line two back should be partially forgiven for the traffic trouble early.

7             HIGHRTHANANEAGLE A Well, he took a lot of money last time out and ended up being the favorite. He broke around the first turn and disrupted a majority of the field. Last Q was okay, but I wouldn’t go all-in on him here.

8             OUR THIRD ROCK             He was third here at the Meadowlands last time out at a huge number and does have a win just three starts ago. However, this is a step up in class and he does come in off of a sick scratch last time out.

9             SETONCRUISECONTROL He was beaten just three lengths against similar claimers last time out, but does have to work from a tougher post here tonight. He has won five times this season though and has come back well this year.

10           THIRD EDITION  That was a pretty third from him from a similar spot last time out. He’ll have his work cut out for him getting involved from this outside post early, but if he can get a good spot early, he can be in the finish late for sure.

1             NIGHT EXPLORER             This would appear to be a bit of a softer spot for him as he makes his debut for the David Wiskow barn. He’s had a lot going on lately as he’s been in three barns in the last month. I’ll pass here and watch.

2             SKYWAY FIREBALL           We’ve seen a few big longshot winners turn right around and win again here recently to prove the first was no fluke. I’ll take a chance on this guy doing just that as he looked really solid in the 26-1 win last time.

3             MAYBE NED        He picked up a couple of checks against similar here at the Meadowlands early last month and he’s got a second and a fourth in the last two against similar at Freehold. He’s a use for me in exotics in this spot.

4             MADDOX HANOVER        The lame scratch last time out is a concern for me, especially given the way he finished off that most recent qualifier at Freehold. Another one I’ll just watch tonight as he makes his debut for the Quevedo barn.

5             BARN ONE          He’s had a tough post, breaking issues, and a parked out trip in his three starts so far for the Gary Levine barn. I think he has the potential to contend here, but let’s see what he’s got assuming he gets a clean trip tonight.

6             RANCOUSY         Look at all the tough posts this guy has had in recent starts. However, if you read between the lines, look how well he raced against tougher claimers down at Philly just two starts ago. An obvious include in this spot.

7             FRANKIE BOY     He’s now made breaks in both of his starts since qualifying last month and there just is a lot of question marks with this one right now. He’ll be a pretty big longshot in this field.

8             FUZZYLEGSANDALL          This one was wide last time around the final turn on the ship in from Plainridge, but was only beaten by just over three lengths in the end against similar. I think he could sneak into the exotics here tonight.

9             WINNING DESIGN            Minus that Post 8 try three backs, his recent form up in New England has been pretty solid. The problem is that this is a significant step up in class and from an outside post. I’ll wait for a better spot for him.

10           ROCKNROLL CAPTAIN     He struggled to get involved last time out against a TM group that should be pretty comparable to these claimers. Now he gets Post 10 to work from which will only make his task that much harder.
